In this paper presents a single-switch resonant
power converter topology suitable for DC to DC energy conversion applications.
The single-switch resonant converter has numerous well-known advantages
compared to the traditional hard-switching converters. The active power switch
is controlled by pulse width modulation at a fixed switching frequency and a
constant duty cycle. In addition, this technique offers many other advantages
such as small volume, and light weight of components due to high switching
frequency and high efficiency. This paper presents a resonant DC to DC
converter which operating at a fixed frequency. Input and output stage of the
converter is filtered by means of a low pass filter. A PID controller is
provided in feedback loop for enhanced performance, maintain and control the
voltage. Operating principles are derived, and analyses are carried out based
on the equivalent circuits for the proposed power converter under different
operating modes. The active power switch can be operated with ZVS, and a
measured energy conversion efficiency of the proposed topology of 99.3% can be
achieved under PLECS software environments. Simulation results are presented to
verify the operation of the conversion system.
